Introduction
Since september 2005, I started working on an artistical image which is constructed as a diptych (see the defintion below). My image is made of two parts/sides which are in complete opposition: the dream world versus the nightmare world. The basic idea is the already known artistic theme of good versus bad, yin-yang and such. The entire image is filled with a multitude of symbols and correlations between the two parts. The same thing as seen through two different perspectives. Some things can be very good and very bad, it only depends on how you see it.
I've been working only on this image since I've started the project. Usually, I'm mostly busy with school so this is one of the reasons why it took me so much to finish it.
In 2005, I started working with an Athlon XP 1800+, 1Gb of RAM. I've encountered multiple hardware failures. Since December 2006, I bought a Core 2 Duo E6700 with 2Gb of RAM to work easier. Until then, I was constantly dealing with memory limitations on the 32bit environment. Unfortunately, I didn't work on the image since May 2007 due to a hardware failure of my new PC. In august 2007 I finished the project.
This image is dedicated to Alizée Jacotey.
Thanks to Cinemike, Radu Filip and to Tor-Erlend for continued support and suggestions. I apologize if I forgot to list someone who provided me suggestions.
Diptych (source Wikipédia)
A polyptych (from the Greek polu- "many" + ptychē "fold") generally refers to a painting (usually panel painting) which is divided into four or more sections, or panels. The term diptych is used to describe a two-part painting and the term triptych describes a three-part painting.
A diptych is a work of art (usually a panel painting) which is divided into two sections, or two carved panels which are hinged together. The whole is intended to be greater than the sum of the parts, thus the two must be closely related.
